(Segun Amao)
"But we do not want you to be uninformed, brothers, about those who are asleep, that you may not grieve as others do who have no hope. For since we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so, through Jesus, God will bring with him those who have fallen asleep."
1 Thessalonianans 4: 13-14

Segun (Oil painting) by Philip Hood
As it is written: "I have made you a father of many nations." He is our father in the sight of God, in whom he believed--the God who gives life to the dead and calls into being things that were not.
Romans 4: 17
“Thy will be done”
To Mary Kolb.
It is an honour
Meeting and knowing you
In this transient existence
Teaching and giving to us
Immeasurable lessons
In selfless love
Compassion
Kindness
In the footsteps of the Good Shepherd
Choosing to share in our sorrows
In our despair and downer
You chose to stand with us
In the footsteps of the Holy One
We will miss you
But we trust you are with the Good Lord
In the company of saints
We look forward to the day
When we meet again in glory
Saying together in everlasting peace: Paternoster.
Femi, April 2013
“There is no safe investment. To love at all is to be vulnerable. Love anything, and your heart will certainly be wrung and possibly be broken. If you want to make sure of keeping it intact, you must give your heart to no one, not even to an animal. Wrap it carefully round with hobbies and little luxuries; avoid all entanglements; lock it up safe in the casket or coffin of your selfishness. But in that casket - safe, dark, motionless, airless - it will change. It will not be broken; it will become unbreakable, impenetrable, irredeemable. The alternative to tragedy, or at least to the risk of tragedy, is damnation. The only place outside Heaven where you can be perfectly safe from all the dangers and perturbations of love is Hell.”
C.S. Lewis

As we remember…
As we remember
When it is all said and done
The greatest invention will not be
The wheel that moves the war machine
Nor the light that glows in the dark
Nor the internet that globalized the unthinkable
The greatest invention:
Will end the human lust for blood
In the settlement of rancour
Started by others
The greatest invention: peace
In this limited space
When all is said and done
The hero will be the peacemaker
That makes it easier for others to breath
A little better
That lend a hand
To the man on his knees
May the day come.

In Remembrance
8 years ago, precisely,
God took an angel among us!
Segun went home..to the Lord.
I have tried numerous times to figure out why...
Recently, I thought, well maybe God needed a brilliant Physician by his side to attend to people on that side of the divide!!
I still miss your voice, your gentle and calming nature, your smiles and above all, your friendship...
Continue to Rest in Peace my dear friend and brother...till we meet to part no more..

The Moon
The Moon still comes around
In its perpetual cycle
Projecting eternity
The Moon listens to me patiently
As I compose my message
Assuring of safe delivery to you
The message is incomplete
And sometimes jumbled
The Moon assured me
That you see and know
In that assurance, we live
And wait.
And she asked of you
Your childhood and growing up
I told her
‘You were and you are still
The best of us’
May the day come.

-------------------------------
Segun, it has been 7 years, yet it feels like it was just yesterday....
That 15th day of November, 2012 when I saw you on the bed...like you were sleeping...
Yes, you were sleeping...never to wake up to this sinful world again...
Yes, you were sleeping eternally in the Lord...free of worries or pain...
That is a consolation for us...but alas, the pain and anguish from your absence linger and have stayed fresh...like it was just yesterday...
Rest on my dear brother and friend..
Till we meet to part no more.
Olukayode.
